Cardholders earn reward points by making payments on time and staying under their maximum credit limit, plus by making purchases with the card. Promotional offers for new cardholders sometimes offer a substantial number of points for making a certain dollar amount of purchases within the first few months of having the card. Reward points are also given to cardholders for signing up for paperless statements.
Cardholders earn points at a higher rate when they use the card to purchase entertainment items, such as movie theater tickets and dinners out, but points are earned with every purchase.
Reward points can be redeemed for merchandise in addition to the other rewards below:
- Donations to charitable organizations
- Gift cards
- Credits toward the statement balance
Applying for a Citi Forward Credit Card
Applying for a Citi Forward card is easy. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Social Security number. All a person has to do to get started is visit the Citi website to fill out the application online. Applicants should be prepared to provide a variety of information, including:
- Contact information
- Social Security number
- Employment information or student status
During the application status they will have the opportunity to choose a card design. Four different designs are available.
It is important to note that online applications will time out after a certain amount of time. For this reason, it is a good idea for people to wait to start the application until they are ready to complete the application in its entirety. Otherwise, they may find that the information is lost and will have to start completely over.
The Credit Decision
While some applicants receive an instant credit decision, once in a while applicants must wait for a decision until a Citi Forward credit card representative has reviewed the information. If approved, customers will receive the credit card in the mail within a week or two. Once they have the card, they must be sure to make payments as scheduled and to stay within the credit limit. If they find themselves slipping they could lose out on reward points and the chance to get a lower interest rate. They will also lose the lesson this card is trying to teach.
